Purpose:

RideAlong is for travelers, businesspeople, and resident of Chicago Illinois. RideAlong pulls the data from the crime databases and organizes them by neighborhood. It then uses its algorithm to label the neighborhoods risk level. As you walk throughout Chicago RideAlong will detect the neighborhood that you are in and will alert you along with the risk level of the neighborhood.

Goal:

The goal of RideAlong is inform people of Chicago not only what neighborhood they are in but also the crime in the neighborhood. With the constant threat of gun shootings and other violent crimes in Chicago this application will allow people to be better informed when they are walking the streets of Chicago.

System Features

Neighborhood Detection

RideAlong will automatically tell you when you are entering a new neighborhood of Chicago, both putting the information on the bottom of the screen and also will alert you by audio.

Audible alerts

RideAlong was make for people that at traveling throughout Chicago. Because of this Ridealong tells the users the new neighborhood and the risk level allowing for hands-free driving.

Updated Crime data

As soon as the crime data is reported from the Chicago’s police database the new information will automatically be pulled from the database to the application and will notify the user when the information is received.

Risk alerts

This application uses an algorithm to tell the user if the user the estimated risk level for the area they are currently in. The risk level is not arbitrary but takes the average crime rate in Chicago and rates the neighborhoods by the quartiles of the spread of crime reports per neighborhood.
