High-intensity circuit training is an alternative (maybe not a replacement) for endurance and resistance training. This app guides through circuit of 12 intervals of which each is 30 seconds long followed by a 10 second rest phase (more details about the circuits can be found here http://journals.lww.com/acsm-healthfitness/Fulltext/2013/05000/HIGH_INTENSITY_CIRCUIT_TRAINING_USING_BODY_WEIGHT_.5.aspx).
Visuals explain the exercises and sound is used to help with timing the intervals.
