Spirit FM Transmit is a real FM transmitter application. This is a very early release and is VERY experimental.

It works ONLY on ROOTED late 2012+ Sony devices that use Qualcomm FM chips, where the "Internal" FM antenna pin is used.

Confirmed working: Xperia Z, Z Ultra, Z1, Z1 compact, T, SP.

Confirmed or likely not working: Xperia Z2, Z2 tablet, L, M.

The power is low so range is not very good. It works best as a method to send music from your phone to a car or home radio that is very close. Sound quality is best with the transmitter antenna (wired headset cable) very close to, or even wrapped around the receiver antenna.

I priced it at 7.99 Euro / 9.99 USD at this time. Version 1 is freely downloadable. Version 2+ is paid at this time.

The amount of time I can spend adding features will be directly proportional to the amount of support I get from purchases of this app.

At this time, most of the app code is BSD licensed code from Qualcomm/CAF who built the FM/combo chip. It's the same FM app code that Spirit1 was originally derived from 3.5 years ago. Now, as then, anyone is welcome to take that code, modify and add features as needed.

Buying/Supporting Spirit Transmit is not just buying mildly modified open source code. It's ongoing technical support and feature updates for at least a few years.

Operation:

Start and grant SU when requested.

Version 2+ supports RDS from music player metadata. For this you need to enable "Spirit Transmit RDS" when presented with the System Security -> Notification Access screen.

If wired headset is plugged in, it should start. Tune as needed. Long press on frequency, use up, down, or presets.

Music or other audio (not FM !) should be transmitted. Turn volume to maximum for best results.

Range is limited. Get transmit and receive antennas as close as possible. Wrap them together along their lengths if feasible.
