Stock Tracker for Betterment is designed to be extremely resource efficient, using less than one megabyte of background data each day the stock market is open. This background stock data is used to build the daily stock chart in real-time and more. Customize the rate of updating or completely disable background stock data gathering in the app, however some features may not work as expected. This app does not ask for your Betterment.com username or password, and can not log into your account, keeping your investments safe and secure. Happy investing!

Permissions used:

-Access Network State: Used to detect if on a cellular connection and limit downloading of information.

-Access WIFI State: Used to disable download on WIFI if so chosen in settings.

-Internet Permission: Needed to download latest stock information online.

-Read/Write external storage: Used to maintain a cache of stock information to save data usage.

-Start on boot: used to schedule notifications and start background stock data gathering, if enabled

-Vibrate: Used to vibrate on notification

-Wake lock: Used to process and save background data while the screen is off. Usually takes less than 0.2 seconds per wake.

FAQ:

Q: Why does this app use some data in the background?

A: Yahoo doesn't provide an easy way to get intra-day data other than requesting the current price every not and then. I've tried to minimize the amount used; it should be less than 15 MB per month in background usage, maximum. I'm looking into three ways to eliminate this need; look for an update soon!

Q: Why doesn't the percentage exactly match the amount calculated from my "Activity" tab on Betterment?

A: The information shown on Betterment can be delayed over 7 hours from the data shown in app. Check again later.

Q: Why do the charts need data?

A: I'm using Google Visualizations to create the charts. A lot of this is cached on the device, saving lots of data, but some data is consumed each time the chart is refreshed.
