Welcome to Stu-fe. The Monotone group is made up of artists and friends who wanted a pub, a restaurant, and a studio (not quite finished yet) all under one roof and in an at-home atmosphere. They’ve done very well all across the board: prim décor, good food, great live music.The décor: If you took out a couple of tables, you would guess that this is someone’s home—and not a bar. It’s a very classic-looking house, and the window space, liberal use of white, impeccable lawn and decorative touches like colored buckets and elaborate lights on the ceiling make it look quite elegant for such a friendly venue. Inside, some of the walls are in a mute blue-green color that, with the furniture, completes the retro living room feel. The band is set up in a corner, not on a stage.The music: With so many musicians around, we were a bit surprised to hear a CD with bossanova covers of “Like a Virgin” and “I Will Survive” on our last visit. When the band leaves the kitchen and starts jamming, things get more interesting as they belt out jazz, acid jazz and easy listening.The crowd: Artist friends of the artist owners. The customers are not students but young professionals.
