Talos Launcher is a home replacement that limits you to only being able to phone 4 people, which are set you when you first run Talos, or via settings. It is aimed at children, or the elderly, who may need a phone to contact you in an emergency.

To get you started, there is a more user friendly guide at the start that walks you through the settings - The key one here is setting up a passcode to restrict access to changing the contact details and getting into system settings. It will also take you through setting an accent colour, a font (typeface), and how you want the images to show. Once all this is done, it takes you through setting up the contacts.

If you have TTS set up, you can set the Talos to tell the time when you press the clock on the home screen.

If you just want to play with the app before hand, you can use some defaults - No numbers will be set, but it will give some place holder images and set some random names. With defaults, no passcode is set meaning you can get into the settings to either re launch the set up guide, or change each setting one at a time.

There are no data permissions required in the app, so there is no data ever coming back to us. Anything you enter is only on your device and will be lost if you wipe the phone. There are only 3 permissions:

Call Phone - to dial out.

Vibrate - to change the call volume in the quick settings panel

Read External Storage - To access images on your phone to set as the contact images.

Soon, I hope to have an updated version with SMS enabled - this will add 4 more SMS related permissions.

Issues:

I haven't be able to test this on a CDMA device, so if you are on certain US carriers, I can not guarantee this will work for you. I have tested on a number of GSM devices and the features seem to work okay for me.

I've also been unable to fully restrict the navigation bar drop down on 4.4+ devices. The user is currently still able to drag the notification bar down and get to other phone functions.
