V-Ray is a render engine that is used as an extension of certain 3D computer graphics software such as 3DS Max, Maya, Rhinoceros 3D, and SketchUp. V-Ray is developed by Chaos Group and thanks to the core developers, which are Vladimir Koylazov and Peter Mitev from Sofia, Bulgaria.
V-Ray is a rendering engine that uses advanced techniques such as global illumination algorithms, path tracing, photon mapping, irradiance maps, etc. Many prefer to use this method of rendering because generally the results are more photo-realistic due to the realistically emulated lighting effects.
One of the most popular 3D computer graphics software that can be installed with V-Ray is Trimble SketchUp 2013. It is a 3D modeling program for a broad range of uses such as architectural, civil, mechanical, movie-making as well as video games design. The V-Ray for SketchUp plugin directly installs inside the 3D program in the form of Ruby extension.
