Voodo is a simple yet powerful todo app. With Voodo, you just Get Things Done, never make things up.
There are 3 kinds of apps across the task management app spectrum:
1. Apps offering only simple lists of items. No due time, no repeat, no priority, no location… Too simple to be useful for most people.
2. Grandiose project management apps with 50% features that you would never use. Too complex to be usable for most people.
3. Apps in the middle. Not too simple, neither too complex. You'll use 80%+ of their features and they cover 80%+ of your requirements in most cases. Voodo is one of the best in this category.
Some distinguishing features:
◉ A really powerful tag system. Tags are much more flexible and effective organizing tools than lists/folders. They are even better in Voodo: besides renaming and deleting, you can merge and archive tags.
◉ Use Google Calendar as the cloud to sync data among devices. You already have Google account, right? So no need to register a new account. It also means you can manage your Voodo tasks on desktop using Google Calendar's web app. Voodo creates its own calendar so it won't mess any of your existing calendars.
◉ Task creating is just text inputting. The first line is title and the rest is note. Times, addresses, tags, contacts, phone numbers, email addresses, web links… are automatically parsed and highlighted, and can be tapped to trigger corresponding actions. Among them, time and address are further extracted from the text and used as due time and location. The text editing experience of Voodo is beyond words. *** To Voodo 1 Users ***
First of all, thank you for using Voodo in the last 4 years. I hope you enjoy Voodo 2 even more.
Voodo 2 is backward data compatible with Voodo 1, but not vice verser. After you migrate data from Voodo 1 to Voodo 2, please stop using Voodo 1 since it will no longer be able to handle properly data synced from Google Calendar.
To migrate data from Voodo 1 to Voodo 2:
1. Do a sync in Voodo 1 to make sure the data in your Google Calendar is up-to-date.
2. Sign in your Google Calendar account in Voodo 2.
3. Do a sync in Voodo 2.
There are two design changes in Voodo 2 that you should know: Calendar Mode and Locations.
Calendar Mode is gone. I want to keep Voodo simple and focused. Voodo is not a calendar app after all. But as you may have noticed in one of the screenshots above, I'm still open-minded on this. So please use the email feedback to tell me what you think.
I seldom use locations in Voodo 1 because they are too heavy-handed. You need to create a location, assign a name to it, and only then can you pick an address for it. If you use name-only addresses as organizing tools, you are misusing them — it's my fault for such a bad design — please stop and use tags instead. In fact, as you'll see immediately, you have to.
Locations in Voodo 2 are much improved. Now you simply input keywords of the target address, Voodo searches nearby matching addresses in realtime — it works just like Maps. You can choose whether you want to be alerted when you arrive at or leave the address. You can also adjust the alert radius.
As you can see, for the new design to work, locations must have address. It means name-only locations from Voodo 1 will not be migrated. It also means Location Mode makes no sense now — locations are just addresses and not organizing tools — so it is also gone.
