How it worksThe WalkAlong app is designed to make it easy to track the number of steps you take and the distance you walk. -It does this by using the accelerometer on the iPhone to count your steps.-Then it calculates the estimated distance you walk by multiplying the number of steps you have taken by the average length of each step. -The distance of an average step is approximately 2.5 feet. If you walk 1,000 steps, then the distance you walked is approximately 2,500 feet (1,000 steps x 2.5 feet).Step Length vs. Stride A step is the distance between the initial floor contact of your heel by each foot while walking. A stride is the distance between 2 sequential initial floor contacts by the heel of the same foot. There are 2 steps in 1 stride.
