Whack-A-Mood is the 7th game in the FACES - Fun Activities to Connect, Excel and Socially Succeed – Program. It's a fast moving social skills building game developed for young and special needs children to improve their ability to visually identify ANGRY, HAPPY, SAD, and SCARED facial expressions. Like Whack-A-Mole, the faces of children expressing these emotions flash randomly to screen. The object is to "WHACK" (actually TAP) as many faces that match the stated emotion in 40 seconds. The more times you TAP a match the more points you get. (5 for 1 MATCH, 10 for 2 MATCHES, 15 for 3 and so on per challenge.) The game screen is very much like our Find That Face game screen. However, we developed Whack-A-Mood in response to those who want to limit the emotions to 4 instead of 8. So in a way it's easier. On the other hand, it's more challenging because the faces randomly change. This is a fun way to really recognize emotions quickly. (This game was developed in direct response to constructive criticism about some of the faces in Find That Face being confusing. By removing BORED, CONFUSED, SURPRISED & TIRED, it's much clearer. We increased the number of faces in the remaining 4 categories by 50%. So this game offers more volume and diversity and hopefully reduces confusion.
