China’s state media Xinhua News Agency established its Africa Regional Bureau in Kenya’s capital Nairobi in 1986. The regional bureau, one of the seven overseas regional bureaus, has 28 local offices affiliated to it. The offices manage news reports covering 47 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. Xinhua has more than 70 Chinese reporters and more than 700 local correspondents, reaching every corner of the region keeping close watch on economic development, political and social development, and covering news events in a timely manner. Xinhua is the most influential media and source of information among Chinese, and now becomes one of the world’s leading modern news agencies, together with Reuters, AP and AFP.To provide accurate, timely and inclusive news service, Xinhua Africa Regional Bureau is launching “XinhuaAF” App in both Chinese and English, an interactive platform for information provision where users can learn about the latest happenings around them, share with friends and tell stories. The Chinese version is targeting the massive Chinese community in Kenya as an increasing number of Chinese are either working, investing in Kenya, or traveling in Kenya. The App will serve as an information center which they rely on for news and information.The English version is tailored to Africans, also aiming to offer comprehensive news and information.XinhuaAF keeps users posted with the latest news about Africa, sports, Sino-Africa economic and trade, and development of major African companies and Chinese companies in Africa. It also serves as users’ source of information by offering information including exhibition and fairs, employment opportunities, exchange rates, selling and buying, restaurants and bars, and tourism.Additionally, XinhuaAF features “Ireport”and “Iask” where users can be journalists and report breaking news to Xinhua as well as make enquiry for information they need.
