YesterQueer is an interactive mapping application that seeks to document LGBTQ history, map that history onto the contemporary landscape, and make the map accessible to the public along with related media such as photos, detailed historical background and quotes.
Information is presented in a simple list format or as plotted on an interactive map. YesterQueer allows you to capture your favorite landmarks that you wish to access regularly and share your excitement with your friends over email, text and social media.
With support from the Jean-Nickolaus Tretter Collection in GLBT Studies and Twin Cities Pride, YesterQueer is being launched for Twin Cities, Minnesota as a collaborative effort shared by Stewart Van Cleve, author of Land of 10,000 Loves: A History of Minnesota (University of Minnesota Press, 2012), and Kerem San, founder of AppyNerds Mobile App Studio.
In creating YesterQueer, we aimed to match history with technology to allow people to learn in the palm of their hand and contribute, collaborate all at the same time. You can add your own places, photos, and memories to share with others on YesterQueer.
After its Twin Cities launch, YesterQueer will expand to other cities around the world. Please contact us (info@appynerds.com) if you would like to bring YesterQueer to your very own city.
YesterQueer proudly supports the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans*, and queer communities through its map-based tour of LBGTQ culture and history.
