Astro Drone is the first single-player game for the Parrot AR.Drone on Android devices! Fly your AR Drone in an augmented-reality space environment and prove that your flying skills compare to those of real astronauts. Avoid space debris, aim for suitable landing positions and dock to the International Space Station in two exciting levels! When you have finished playing the game, you can choose to participate in our scientific crowdsourcing research project.

In the first level of the game, show your skills by docking your drone to the International Space Station (ISS). While your drone flies around in your flight area, you fly around in a low-earth orbit in space. Attempt to perfectly steer your drone to the docking port, and rendez-vous safely in as little time as possible.

In the second level, you control the Rosetta spacecraft that is currently on its way to comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko. Avoid space debris on your way to the comet, but don't move too wildly! When you have safely approached the comet, aim for the target landing location and release the Philae lander at the right moment! The game is a fundamental part of a scientific crowdsourcing experiment that will improve the capabilities of future spacecraft and planetary rovers. After a successful mission, abstract mathematical features and small pixel patches are extracted from the camera images of the drone. The images themselves are not sent! The information in the image features cannot be used to reconstruct the original images of your flight area. Still, together with the navigation data of your AR.Drone (velocities and angles), the image features are very important to improve capabilities such as autonomous docking, landing, and obstacle avoidance. Participation to the experiment is highly appreciated and on a voluntary basis. You can choose to participate by pressing the 'Participate'-button in the menu. You can also visit the highscore tables, to compare your score to others. Please note that you have to disconnect from the drone and connect to the internet in order to contribute to the experiment.

Known issues:

Connect to the AR.Drone WiFi network BEFORE opening the app. This is necessary because of a series of initializations during the app start-up. If the app was started before connection to the drone was made, make sure to close the app. To prevent the app from running in the background, quit it using the 'back'-key instead of the 'home'-key.

Marker detection occurs onboard of the drone, and might not work well under all circumstances. Typically daylight helps a lot to achieve accurate detection. Also, make sure to select the correct marker color (blue or green) in the 'in-game'-settings menu.
