SafeBack is a tool designed for use in the field for estimating the compressive load on the low back. Begin by taking a photo of a worker performing a task. Next input the worker's height, weight and the mass of the object the worker is holding. Pose the on-screen skeleton in the same posture as a worker. The App calculates the load on the low back due to this activity. The estimates can be compared to the NIOSH limit of 3400N to determine if a given activity is considered safe. The same worker may need to be photographed a number of times to determine the worst case posture.
