What was soccer like in early days? Find out in this historical football app, in which you can learn all about the early history of the Dutch national soccer teams. Dive into the past, view historical photos and test your knowledge of the former Dutch national teams.

This application not only contains information about Dutch soccer teams from previous centuries, but also lots of wonderful footage of 'Oranje' and 'our boys'. About 1800 pictures of the Dutch national team from the period 1894 to 1956 can be viewed. Snapshots of the very first team for example. At that time it was not a national team yet, but they played international matches under the name "union league”. But also pictures of the Dutch Olympic football team which participated several times, the World Champion leagues in the thirties of the twentieth century and the many friendly games the Netherlands played against Belgium.

Meet our heroes of the past. Discover that some soccer stadiums used to be in places where you no longer would expect them to be. Or simply marvel at the humble playing fields, where important matches where played out.

This app is initiative of the Dutch National Archives in cooperation with its Friends of the Dutch National Archives and the Koninklijke Nederlandse Voetbalbond (KNVB).
